In 2015, violinist Johnny Gandelsman embarked on a three-year journey through J.S. Bach’s six violin sonatas and partitas, culminating in a debut solo recording that The New York Times called an “essential addition to the pile [of solo Bach albums].” But Gandelsman wasn’t ready to leave Bach’s singular sonic world just yet — for the next four years, he turned his focus to the composer’s six stalwart suites for unaccompanied cello, recording and performing novel, folk-rooted violin arrangements to great critical acclaim. Now, Gandelsman realizes his dream of playing both beloved sets at a single venue, taking up a four-night residency in the resplendent Fuentidueña Chapel at The Met Cloisters.

“This was an exquisitely personal vision of Bach, all radical sincerity and glinting light. The audience sat rapt for nearly two hours, until it rose as one.” —The Boston Globe
